⭐️ 1-Star Review – One of the Most Hurtful Experiences I’ve Had With a Doctor I am writing this review with a lot of sadness and frustration because my experience with Dr. Jaime Alberto Zapata and his team was truly heartbreaking—especially after traveling all the way from the United States, spending thousands of dollars, organizing childcare, arranging time off work, and putting all my hopes into this surgery. From the very beginning, things felt off. My first virtual consultation wasn’t even with Dr. Zapata—it was with another doctor from his team. That doctor was actually kind and informative, which is the only reason I continued the process. But because I was referred specifically to Dr. Zapata, I asked repeatedly to meet him. I finally got a second virtual appointment, scheduled for 3 PM. He didn’t show up until 4 PM. No apology. No explanation. Nothing. I had to miss work, rearrange my schedule, and sit there waiting. And when he finally joined, he seemed rushed, uninterested, and disconnected. He gave me basic answers and made me feel like I was just another number on his calendar—not a human being about to put my life in his hands. There was zero warmth, zero reassurance, and nothing that made me feel safe or confident. Then things got even worse. They knew I was traveling internationally. They knew I had flights booked, an Airbnb paid for, my family traveling with me… yet they still changed my surgery date three different times: 1️⃣ First it was December 5th 2️⃣ Then they moved it to December 6th 3️⃣ And then again to December 9th because the doctor suddenly had a conference Each time they changed the date, I felt more stressed, more anxious, and more disappointed. They treated my time, my money, and my plans like they meant nothing. When I finally got to Colombia, I immediately did the lab work. My hemoglobin was 11.6. The anesthesiologist called me and, with no compassion, just said: “We cannot operate.” And hung up. I called her back—no answer. No “Let’s figure this out.” No “Let me guide you.” No “Let me refer you to someone who can help.” Nothing. She later sent me a referral for repeat labs at Imbanaco. I did it right away. The next morning, the levels were even slightly lower, and again she told me it was canceled and said, “I’m sorry, honey” before hanging up. That was the moment I realized: they did not care about me at all. I was left completely alone in another country, thousands of dollars spent, my kids and family with me, my work put on hold—all for nothing. No empathy. No support. No attempt to help me understand what was happening with my health or to reschedule for a later time. Not even 30 seconds of REAL care. What hurts the most is knowing all of this could have been prevented. If Dr. Zapata had taken the time to truly speak with me, explain the pre-op requirements, or remind me to check my hemoglobin before flying… if anyone on his team had taken two minutes to guide me… I would have been spared the emotional stress, the financial loss, and the disappointment. And let’s be honest: the price he charges—$12,500 USD—plus the cost of flights, Airbnb, food, and transportation ended up being around $16,000–$17,000 USD. For that amount, I could have stayed home in Miami with a board-certified doctor who values patients, communicates clearly, and treats them with dignity and respect. Instead, I left Colombia feeling dismissed, unimportant, and honestly, heartbroken by how little they cared. I would never recommend Dr. Jaime Alberto Zapata to anyone traveling from the United States. No patient should go through what I went through. No one deserves to feel this helpless, this unsupported, and this forgotten.

Please exercise caution when dealing with this clinic. I am Colombian living in another country, I recently inquired about certain surgical procedures I was interested in, only to discover that they tend to charge three times more for foreigners compared to locals. It seems that this clinic assumes that simply because we are from another country, we are naive and have an endless supply of money to spend. Such actions demonstrate a lack of ethics and respect towards foreign consumers. Be careful how you dress on your visit at this clinic because they may consider how much they will charge you based on your appareance 🤷‍♂️
