I had a tonsillectomy 2 years ago (2019). I'm writing this review 2 years later because I've been working with other medical facilities etc, and I now see there is a big difference. South Texas Surgical Hospital was very clean and organized. (I am super picky about cleanliness.) I am self pay and the pre registration process was easy, quick, and the fees were exactly what they quoted me. There were no add ons or extra surprises. The day of surgery the staff was polite and professional. When they were prepping me for surgery the nurses and staff were very kind. After my procedure the post op area was clean, the nurse was there waiting to assist me when I woke up, and I was able to recover and return home quickly. I had a wonderful experience with this hospital and I would choose them again in the future if given the choice. Thanks again for the great care!

Recently had appendix surgery at South Texas Surgical Hospital and can't say enough about the service and staff. Preregistration was easy and quick. When arrived for surgery the prep was easy and comfortable. The nurse was knowledgeable explaining what I could expect while preparing me. The recovery nurses are so professional. They took such good care me always friendly and caring. If ever I again have surgery South Texas Surgical Hospital will be my choice.

The preregistration process was infuriating. Waited for over 3 hours to complete a health history and get blood drawn. As I sat there I contemplated canceling my surgery and rescheduling my procedure elsewhere. Had I not been so impressed with my surgeon I would have done that, I was that irritated, I had the same experience when I brought my daughter in for surgery 8 months ago. That experience aside everything else was great. The nurses were attentive and efficient, the anesthesiologist was the best I've ever encountered. I stayed overnight and had great care from the nurses and PCT. The hospital is clean and quiet, if it weren't for the preregistration process i would rate it at 5 stars.

My husband & I have had quite a few day procedures done here (things like colonoscopies & EGDs). We've had nothing but good experiences regarding all our day-procedures. I had one major surgery here with a 5 day stay recently. The surgery went well, but my first few days were rough, so they kept me for the max stay. Everything about my stay was good **except** for the first night nurse I experienced & one fill-in doctor (fill-in for my surgeon). I was in a LOT of pain those first few days (with the worst being the first 36 hours) & that first night nurse not only NEVER examined me for a whole 12 hour shift, but she was 100% unsympathetic & even mean to me regarding my pain (& I'm a stoic person when it comes to pain whi is not a complainer). Every other nurse & nurse's aid on every other shift (10 shifts, total!) was wonderful, sympathetic, & helpful. But that first night made me very scared & uncomfortable that something was very wrong with me & no one was paying attention. After all, I just got out of a MAJOR surgery less than 3 hours before she arrived on shift! To top it off, the next morning the fill-in doctor couldn't have been in & out of my room fast enough. He barely talked to me & also NEVER touched me, examined me, or looked @ my surgical area (he literally stood about 6 feet away from my bed & was there maybe 1 minute)! This did NOT instill confidence in me that all was going ok for me post-surgically! The other fill-in doctor & my surgeon that came in to check me on successive days all examined me & took their time with me. -So, basically, all people were fantastic except one doctor & one nurse - who should both find other careers 🙄. I should also note the whole hospital is immaculately clean (both inpatient & surgery areas). The food is also VERY good for a hospital. Pictured is the salmon with balsamic glaze I was given for my first solid meal. It was fabulous. Overall, I recommend this place, but I took one star off for my encounter with the one horrible nurse & one doctor who could care less.

When you go in for back surgery and come up with 5 holes for only 2 IVs and cuts on your face, chest, and bum. In 2019 they didn’t know how to do IVs and they still don’t. And I’m left with the cuts and bruises. Scarred for life.
